The following is taken from the Preface:

In honor of Ohio's Bicentennial, the Friends of the Sherwood Library, have put together      A Sherwood Scrapbook; Volume I. Our desire is to stimulate interest in Sherwood's history and promote pride in our community. We wish to thank all those who have contributed materials, time and effort in helping to create this booklet.

When we decided in the fall of 2002 to celebrate Ohio’s Bicentennial with a local history publication we did not realize how much interest would surface and how much material would be accumulated. A number of well-written and soundly researched articles were submitted. It was clear that many of the subjects required more length than we had thought. A wealth of "scrapbook" type information was also available from old issues of the Sherwood Chronicle and other area newspapers. It was decided to forge ahead with the original idea of working with short items for this book and to hold the longer articles for a general history of Sherwood. As this publication goes to press we find we not only have the basis for that general history but there is also material out there for a second scrapbook.

We hope that A Sherwood Scrapbook will be found interesting and informative and will stimulate more research on our local community.
