  Eugene Meyer        (1941 - 2011)

SHERWOOD - Eugene F. "Farmer" Meyer, 69, Sherwood, Ohio, passed away Monday, March 28, 2011, in a fire at his home.

He was born in Antwerp, Ohio, on August 22, 1941, the son of the late Joseph F. and Edna M. (Reinhart) Meyer. He married Sharon Dirr, on June 13, 1964, and she survives. He worked as a millwright at GM Central Foundry/Powertrain, retiring in 2003.

He was a member of St. Isidore Catholic Church, the Bend, and a 1960 graduate of Defiance High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran and very involved in the Defiance AMVETS Post 1991, where he was a past commander, AMVETS 9th District past commander, NEC hospitality coordinator, current AMVETS National Provost Marshall and AMVETS State and National Sad Sacks Saddest. He was also a member of the Defiance Eagles, Knights of Columbus, VFW, DAV and Moose. Gene was a volunteer driver for the Defiance County Veterans Office, taking veterans to hospitals and medical appointments.

Besides his wife, Sharon, surviving are a daughter, Francine Meyer and fiancé, Paul Drasutia, and children, Rachael (Rae) Joshua and Andrew, of Defiance; three sons, Mark (Melissa) Meyer and children, Amanda, Morgan, Madison and Maxwell of Westminster, Md., Tony (Terri) Meyer and children, Chase Meyer, Nick and Justin Guelde of Sherwood; and Matt (Novell) Meyer and daughter K. Isabelle of Sherwood; sisters, Sister Julaine Meyer CSA of Fond du Lac, Wis., and Agnes (James) Timbrook of Defiance; a brother, Don (Clara) Meyer of Defiance.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Ann Meyer, and his parents.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. John Catholic Church, Defiance, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 2, with a luncheon served at the church after services. Visitation will be Thursday from 2-7:30 p.m. and Friday from 2-7:30 p.m. at Lawson-Roessner Funeral Home, 1753 S. Clinton St., Defiance. There is a vigil service at 7:30 p.m. Thursday and an AMVETS service at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery where VFW Post 3360 will conduct honorary military rites.

Marcie J. Lively    (1950 - 2011)

SHERWOOD - Marcie J. Lively, 60, Sherwood, Ohio, died Tuesday, March 22, 2011, at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo, Ohio.

She was born August 8, 1950, in Hicksville, Ohio, the daughter of Robert and Evelyn (Guilford) Scott. On March 3, 1981, she married Billy Joe Lively, who died on February 3, 2009. She was a homemaker and a former member of the Sherwood Fire Department. She was a loving mother, grandmother and sister. Her favorite saying was, "I love you to the moon and back."

Surviving are a son, Billy Joe (Erica) Matson of Kettering, Ohio, three grandchildren, Zachary (Tuff) Matson, Cody Matson and Parker Matson; a sister, Anita (Gary) McAdow, Ney, Ohio, two brothers, Paul (Marcia) Scott of Akron, Ohio, and Larry (Diane) Scott, Reynoldsburg, Ohio; and 13 nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Billy Joe Lively; her parents, a son, Dale Lively; a brother, Guilford Scott; and a nephew, Shon Froelich.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 26, 2011, at Hanenkrath-Clevenger-Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance, Ohio, with Rev. Ned Speiser officiating. Burial will be in Sherwood Cemetery. Visitation is from 2-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Ronald Gill    (1942 - 2011)

SHERWOOD - Ronald D. Gill, 68 years, of Sherwood, passed away Thursday, March 17, 2011, at Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers, Bryan, Ohio.

Ron was born October 28, 1942 in Garden City, Michigan, to Irvin and Catherine (Lyons) Gill. He married Carol Sue Bostater on August 29, 1986 in Bryan, and she preceded him in death on September 18, 2003. Ron was a farmer, working for Huntsman Farms. He also previously worked for Powers & Sons in Montpelier and Chase Brass in Holiday City. He enjoyed playing guitar and was known as a shade tree mechanic, always keeping friends' and family cars in running condition.

Surviving are his seven daughters, Clara Bigger of Bryan, Lori Austin of Kentucky, Sonya Austin of Bryan, Emma Austin of Bryan, Ronni Gill of Montpelier, Holly Gill of Montpelier and Andrea Gill of Michigan, two sons, Aaron Austin of Montpelier and Shane Gill of Stryker; 18 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, two brothers, Daniel Gill of Bryan and Michael (Margie) Gill of Montpelier and one sister, Sandy (Mel) Pegroch of Montpelier. He is also survived by his companion, Janet Richards of Sherwood.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Carol.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, March 21, 2011 at Shiffler Cemetery, rural Bryan. Visitation for Ronald D. Gill will be held Monday, March 21, 2011 from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. in the Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 206 North Lynn Street, Bryan. Memorial tributes in the name of Ronald D. Melvin Guilford    (1918 - 2011)

SHERWOOD -- Melvin W. Guilford, 92, Sherwood, Ohio, died Sunday, March 13, 2011, at his residence.

He was born August 9, 1918, in Defiance County, Ohio, the son of Charles O. and Effie (Gloor) Guilford. On April 4, 1942, he married Kathleen D. Scott, who survives. He was a lifelong farmer and a dispatcher for the Ohio State Highway Patrol, retiring in August of 1983.

Surviving are his wife, Kathleen D. Scott Guilford, Sherwood, two sons, Scott (Rickie) Guilford of Sherwood and Dennis Guilford, Peoria, Ariz, seven grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents, a son, Steve "Satch" Guilford, two brothers, Vernon and Lester Guilford and a sister, Ruby Bunke.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 17, 2011, at Hanenkrath-Clevenger-Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance, Ohio, with Rev. Donald L. Luhring officiating. Burial will be in Sherwood Cemetery. Visitation is from 2-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Edgar W. Rosebrock    (1928 - 2011)

SHERWOOD - Edgar W. Rosebrock, 82, Sherwood, passed away Sunday, March 6, 2011, at Brookview Healthcare Center, Defiance, where he had been a resident the past nine months.

He was born September 26, 1928, in Sherwood, Ohio, the son of the late Christ and Emma (Krauskopf) Rosebrock. He married Mary E. Dickey on November 10, 1951, and she survives. Edgar was a self-employed farmer. He drove bus for the Fairview School District for 39 years. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Sherwood, where he served as a deacon, trustee, Sunday school superintendent and on the finance committee. He also served on the Mark Township Zoning Board. In his spare time, Edgar enjoyed tinkering with woodworking.

Surviving are his wife, Mary, of Sherwood, three children, David (Lu Ann) Rosebrock of Sherwood, Sharon (Alex) Renollet of Sherwood and Mark (Sandy) Rosebrock of Defiance, nine grandchildren, Amanda (Ed) Salinas of Paulding, Adria Rosebrock of Alexandria, Va., Adam Renollet of Sherwood, Nicholas (Danielle) Renollet of Sherwood, Nathan Renollet of Sherwood, Eric Renollet of Sherwood, Rachel, Tyler and Sarah Rosebrock, all of Defiance, three great-grandchildren, Julian and Garret Salinas and Anthony Renollet.

He was preceded in death by his infant son, Edward; his parents, one brother, Robert Rosebrock, and three sisters, Gertrude Slough, Lorene Haase and Loretta Delbecq.

Funeral services for Edgar W. Rosebrock will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 10, 2011, at St. John Lutheran Church, 09088 Openlander Road, Sherwood, with Pastor Mark DeLassus officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation for Edgar will be held Wednesday, March 9, 2011, from 2-8 p.m. in the Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home & Crematory, 230 East Elm Street, Sherwood. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the church.

Lucille M. Breininger    (1911-2011)

SHERWOOD - Lucille M. Breininger, 99 years, formerly of Sherwood, died Monday, January 3, 2011 at Hickory Creek at Hicksville, where she was a resident. Lucille was born July 10, 1911 in Black Run, Ohio, the daughter of Erie and Ollie (Hutchinson) Hull. She married Jacob O. “Jake” Breininger on February 18, 1935, and he preceded her in death on January 4, 1975. Lucille was a homemaker, who enjoyed caring for her family. She was a member of Lighthouse Church of God, Hicksville, Ohio.

Surviving is her daughter, Rachel Kroterfield of Sherwood; three grandchildren, Pastor Vincent (Anna) Kroterfield of Hicksville, Charles “Chuck” Kroterfield (Rosemary Albertson) of Lake Worth, Texas and Tamilee Braun of Sherwood; three great-grandchildren, Callie and Madison Braun, and Faith Kroterfield. She was preceded in death by her husband Jake, two brothers, Leo and Paul Hull and two sisters, Esther Mott and Ruth Wood.

Visitation for Lucille M. Breininger will be held Thursday, January 6, 2010 from 12:00 noon – 2:00 p.m. in the Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home & Crematory, 230 East Elm Street, Sherwood where funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday with her grandson, Pastor Vincent Kroterfield officiating.

James Relyea    (1967 - 2010)

SHERWOOD - James "Jim" Relyea, 43, Sherwood, Ohio, died Monday, December 6, 2010, at his residence.

He was born June 13, 1967, in Bryan, Ohio, the son of Paul and Betty (Shock) Relyea. James was a forklift operator at S&S Express and a loving son, brother and uncle.

Surviving are his parents, Defiance; a brother, Joe (Carrie) Relyea, Defiance; nieces, Jessica and Aubrey Relyea; and a nephew, Colton Relyea.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 10, 2010, at Hanenkrath-Clevenger-Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance, with Rev. Ron Hofacker officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Defiance. Visitation is from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

DeNelda Luderman    (1921 - 2010)

HICKSVILLE - DeNelda Luderman, 89 years, formerly of Sherwood and Hicksville, died Wednesday, October 6, 2010 at Bryan Care and Rehabilitation Center, Bryan.

DeNelda was born March 17, 1921 in Mark Township, Defiance County, Ohio the daughter of the late Theodore and Clara (Persin) Joost. She married Gerhardt Luderman on November 30, 1940 and he preceded her in death on July 15, 1998.

DeNelda was employed as a realtor for Yoder Realty, Inc of Defiance and Sherwood for 28 years, retiring in 1998. DeNelda and Gerhardt also were the owners of Midway Kennel and the Machine Shop a teen gathering place in Sherwood. She was a member of the St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Sherwood. She was also a member of the National Association of Realtors. DeNelda loved to raise animals and had a petting zoo “Luderman’s Farm” at the family homestead on State Route 18 outside of Sherwood where they raised exotic animals such as emus, llamas, pygmy goats, wallabies and sheep. The pond attracted geese, wild ducks and herons and was designated as a “No Hunting Zone”.

Surviving are her children, Rev. Gary Luderman of Hicksville, James (Diane) Luderman of Pocatello, Idaho, Thomas (Susan) Luderman of Hicksville and Sandra (Kenny) Rodocker of Hicksville; 21 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. Her parents, husband, one granddaughter Susan Luderman, one great-granddaughter Ceranity Coulter and three sisters, Mildred Cline, Ruth Ebersole and Iris Joost preceded her in death.

Visitation for DeNelda Luderman will be held on Saturday, October 9, 2010 from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home 230 East Elm Street, Sherwood where funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, October 10, 2010 with Pastor Mark DeLassus officiating. Interment will follow in Sherwood Cemetery.

David L. Ganger    (1937 - 2010)

SHERWOOD - David L. Ganger, 73, of Sherwood passed away Tuesday, October 5, 2010 at his residence.

David was born in Paulding on July 20, 1937, a son of the late Margaret (Chehi) and Lerenzia Ganger.

He was a self employed carpenter who enjoyed flying Ultralight Aircraft.

On June 28, 1993 he married Linda Ebersole, who survives.

David will be sadly missed by his wife, Linda; children, Mark (Leann) Ganger of Warsaw, IN, Steve Bergman of Sherwood, Shane Bergman, Damian Ganger & Mathia Ganger all at home; brothers, Robert of Sturgis, MI, Rolland of Paulding & John of Briceton and six grandchildren.

His funeral service is at Dooley Funeral Home, Antwerp, at 11 am on Friday, October 8th, with viewing two hours prior.

He will be laid to rest at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery.

Kenneth R. Vogelsong Sr    (1942 - 2010)

SHERWOOD - Kenneth R. Vogelsong Sr., 68 years, of Sherwood, died at 11:20 p.m. on Sunday, June 13, 2010 at Community Health Professionals Inpatient Hospice Facility, Defiance.

Kenneth was born May 7, 1942 in Defiance, Ohio, the son of the late Charles Walter and Marguerite Ophelia (Mawhorr) Vogelsong. He was a 1960 graduate of Fairview High School. Ken married Connie Vance on June 24, 1961 and the marriage ended in 1972. He then married Sandra S. Banks on February 24, 1973 in Antwerp, Ohio and she survives. Ken began his working career as an inspector for Johns Manville Corp. in Defiance. He became a millwright and worked for General Motors Powertrain for 45 years, retiring in June 2006. He was a UAW Union Representative, serving two terms for six years. Ken had attended the House of Prayer in Montpelier, Ohio. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and taking care of his family. They were always first and foremost on his mind.

Surviving is his wife, Sandra of Sherwood; son Kenneth (Jamie) Vogelsong Jr. of Sherwood; daughters, Pam (Edward) Carnahan of Sherwood, Beverly (John) Fifer of Defiance, Carolyn (Jeff) Arps of Okolona and Kendra (Jeff) Rucker of Sherwood; Ten grandchildren Eddie (Hillary) Carnahan, Jr., Alicia McKinley, Jessica Hillman, John Fifer III, Cole and Rhett Arps, Nevada and Liberty Vogelsong, Austin and Alexis Rucker; four brothers, Ralph Vogelsong of Napoleon, Harold (Barbara) Vogelsong of Defiance, Bill (Liz) Vogelsong of Cecil and Howard (Juanita) Vogelsong of Defiance; one sister Edna Beardsley of Sherwood and many nieces and nephews. His parents, son, Kim, two granddaughters, Brandy Jo Carnahan and Kristina Fifer, a great-grandson, Derrik McKinley, two sisters, Barbara and Patricia Vogelsong all preceded him in death.

Visitation for Kenneth R. Vogelsong Sr. will be held on Thursday, June 17, 2010 from 3:00 – 8:00 p.m. and also one hour prior to the service on Friday in the Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home 230 East Elm Street, Sherwood where funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 18, 2010 in the funeral home with Pastor Don Harris officiating. Interment will follow in Riverview Memory Gardens, Defiance, Ohio.

Arthur Y. “Art” Teegardin    (1940 - 2010)

SHERWOOD - Arthur Y. “Art” Teegardin, 69 years, of Sherwood, died at 4:50 a.m. Saturday, June 12, 2010 in his residence with his family at his side while under the care of Community Health Professionals Hospice.

Art was born December 1, 1940 in Steuben County, Indiana, the son of Derryll R. and Mildred R. (Piper) Teegardin. Art served his country in the United States Army. He married Ruth A. Eck on October 6, 1961 in Bryson City, North Carolina, and that marriage ended in divorce after 17 years. He then married Lois F. Burkhart on October 3, 2003 and she survives. Art had been a truck driver for Farmers Ag Service in Butler, Indiana. He then moved to Ohio and worked for the village of Sherwood, retiring in 2003. He was also the owner of Art Enterprises and Auto Care. Art was a member of the Butler American Legion Post 202, the Butler Eagles Aerie 2733 and the Bryan Eagles Aerie 2233 and a social member of the Sherwood VFW Post 5665.

Surviving is his wife, Lois of Sherwood, Children, Laurie Coburn of Butler, Indiana, Loretta (Mark) Mock of Ney, Ohio, Jim J. Teegardin of Ney, Ohio, Clayton A. (Michelle) Williams of Defiance and Denny L. Repp of Findlay, Ohio; 18 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; the mother of his children, Ruth A. Teegardin; one brother, William L. (Cathy) Teegardin of South Carolina; three sisters, Mary Hartman of Coldwater, Michigan, Betty Hoover of Bryan and Edith Webster of Edgerton, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Russell A. Teegardin, brother, Derryll A. “Archie” Teegardin and two sisters, Marjorie Teegardin and Helen Marie Phillips.

Visitation for Art Teegardin will be held on Tuesday, June 15, 2010 from 2:00 – 4:00 and 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home 230 East Elm Street, Sherwood where funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 16, 2010 where Military Rites will be conducted by the Sherwood VFW Post 5665.

Debra Joyce Duke    (1953 - 2010)

SHERWOOD - Debra Joyce Duke, age 57, of Sherwood, passed away peacefully at 8:48 a.m. Tuesday, June 8, 2010 at Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers, Bryan.

Deb was born April 29, 1953 in Superior, Wisconsin, the daughter of the late Henry and Ruth (Avery) Beeman. She married Larry F. Duke, Sr., on May 1, 1971 in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, and he survives. Deb loved to crochet and was a computer geek. Her vise in life was to play bingo. She would assist anyone who would need help and was a great mom and grandma to many.

Surviving is her husband, Larry of Sherwood; one son, Larry (Brandi) Duke, Jr., of Waterloo, Indiana; two daughters, Kelly (Tim) Grandey of Hicksville and Shelly Eriksen of Waterloo, Indiana; 11 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; Mother-in-law, Mary Duke of Sherwood; four brothers Henry Beeman of Bryan, Bradley (Anna) Beeman of Sheboygan, Wisconsin, Robert Belford of Superior, Wisconsin and Claude Thompson of Seattle, Washington; four sisters, Alvina Webster of Bryan, Brenda Belford of Bryan, Roberta McDaniel of Bryan and Kathy Ottinger of Sheboygan, Wisconsin. She was preceded in death by her son, Benjiman Duke, brother, Kenneth Thompson and two sisters, Marlene Beeman and Michelle Webster.
