Sherwood Memorial Park

Welcome to the Sherwood Memorial Park. The park was made possible by a $41,000 NatureWorks grant from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources and along with local matching dollars from local individuals, organizations, and countless hours of volunteer work.

The park has a long history over the years of providing family fun for area residents and out-of-towners alike with a place to stop, enjoy a meal, take a walk or enjoy a day of fishing. Up until the early 80's it also provided ice skating in the winter months and a cool dip in the pond in the summer.

In 2005 work began to bring the park a new look, a collaboration was formed to build strength and support for the revitalization effort. The primary focus of the park was to foster a sense of community, by providing recreational opportunities for people of all ages and all abilities, and a statement of our community’s commitment to enriching lives and instilling a renewed sense of pride in Sherwood.

The gazebo is the jewel in the park's crown and serves as a backdrop for concerts, weddings, memorial services, as well as special events.  The gazebo is a place to relax, unwind from a stressful day or perhaps enjoy reading a book from the local library. A paver path with engraved messages on granite pavers from both business and residents create a "Memory Lane" that establishes ones place in the history of Sherwood as you walk the path to the gazebo or 2 of the gardens, Garden of Honor and Garden of Remembrance, that have been built on either side. Benches in the Garden of Honor and Garden of Remembrance, as well as those in the gazebo, provide a resting area for friends and family.

The park's location, beside the cemetery, offers a place of respite and consolation to those who are in mourning.  A garden, visible from both the park and the cemetery, has been created at the gap in the hedge, allowing young, old and in between to work together in creating a multi-sensory habitat for birds and butterflies.

The enabling garden, with raised planters, allows visually impaired, wheelchair bound or physically challenged individuals to enjoy gardening at a level that is comfortable for them. Plans are still in the works to provide a running fountain and lights to add even more elegance to this garden.

The pond has been stocked with fish and should provide an opportunity for adults and youngsters to enjoy quiet time trying to catch the "big one". An aerator fountain in the center of the pond, benches, and new lighting have been installed around the pond giving all a place to sit and enjoy the view.
