World's Longest Yard Sale
The “World’s Longest Yard Sale” will turn Sherwood into a
tourist attraction Thursday through Sunday, August 6 – 9. The
sale, which runs 654 miles from West Unity in northwest Ohio to
Gadsden, Alabama along the U.S. 127 corridor, attracts folks
from everywhere. This will be the third year Sherwood has
participated as the village has the distinction of being the
only town in Defiance County on the route.
There will be multiple vendors at the Little Reservation Station
playground (former site of the Sherwood School) on North
Harrison Street as well as farmer's market vendors with fresh,
locally grown produce and food. 20’ x 20’ spaces are available
for $50 for the four days. $10 will be refunded if the space is
left clean. Proceeds from the space rentals will be used for
park improvements. The park board will also have antique folding
chairs for sale while the supply lasts. Those wishing to rent a
space may download an application form at www.SherwoodOhio.com
or contact park board members Michael Sudholtz – 419-899-2908 or
Joan Sliter at work - 419-899-3482 or at home - 419-899-4927.
Nearby, the United Methodist congregation will serve lunch at the church.
The menu includes homemade beef and noodles, chicken sandwiches,
hot dogs, beverages and a variety of delicious desserts.
Travelers can enjoy the convenience of indoor plumbing and air
conditioning during lunch and while they shop at the “yard sale”
in the fellowship hall. The lunch and sale at the church will
run Thursday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
The Friends of the Sherwood Library will conduct a used book sale at two
locations. Folks can purchase books at the library or at a table
at Little Reservation Station.
And this is just the tip of the iceberg, more yard sales can be found
throughout the village and by heading north towards Bryan or
south to Paulding. Along the multi-state yard sale corridor are
a number of restaurants and lodging choices. Tourist attractions
are noted on the yard sale's website at
