The
rest of the story......
Many of you in the area have seen the picture to the left, a boy crossing the
railroad tracks in Sherwood. I remember the day when that could have been me.
The boys name is Michael Herman and he is my step son and I have got to share
the story from the day he came home to tell me , " Dad, I'm going to be on a
commercial"
Michael was so excited, he had just left the Sherwood library
with a bag of books when he was approached by a camera crew who ask him to be a
part in a commercial they were doing for Sherwood, his hometown, Michael, at the
time, just turned 6 years old. The camera crew followed him down to the house
for mom & dads permission, good boy!
"Dad, I'm going to be on a commercial" Michael yelled several
times as he came through the door. My little man was all excited, but he could
not get the facts straight or Dad could not get them straight. Michael said, "Com'on
Dad they will tell you" and took me by the hand to go outside where sure enough
there was a TV camera Crew from 21 Alive.
We gave the camera crew our permission to use Michael and
they told Michael to meet them up by the railroad tracks and the boy was gone,
yes he did beat them there. Of course I had to watch, so I walked up to
Botwell's garage to watch Michael be on his commercial. The camera crew ask him
several times to walk back and fourth across the tacks, faster, slower, on the
bike, off the bike, just look straight ahead, not at the camera. After about 8
times he finally yelled, " I got to do it again Dad" and back across the tracks
he went.
After about 20 times of back and fourth, the crew had what
they were looking for in good video footage and sent Michael on his way.
Michael's excitement grew over the next couple on months waiting for his
commercial to be on TV, and when it did, I believe he forgot about the 20 times
they run him back and fourth across them tracks
Now you can find Michael on T-shirts, Sherwood post cards and
TV, I call him my Sherwood poster child, he enjoys the name and enjoys being a
Sherwood-ite. I do hope this brought a smile across your face, it does mine
every time I visit the memory. To watch the commerical that Michael is so proud
of , Dad too. Find the link to the top of the page marked Sherwood, My Home Town
