Village Council
April
Meeting
Street repairs and the Sherwood village income tax
were the main topics for discussion during the Village Council's meeting
on Monday, April 18th. Council discussed three streets that are planned for
repaving this year, Vine St., Central and Wilmont St. After looking at the
prices for repairs, totaling $38,017.73, it was decided not to do Wilmont
Street.
"We're going to have to wait till next year for Wilmont
Street, because we don't feel there is enough money in the street fund now,"
Dawn Buskirk, village clerk-treasurer, said. "Central and Vine will still be
redone."
Sherwood village has a Local Transportation Improvement Plan
(LTIP) grant of $10,334 to help cover expenses for repaving Central and Vine
streets. The village needs to come up with approximately $16,000 for those two
streets. To pave Wilmont Street, an additional $11,190.17 was needed, said
Buskirk.
If less expensive bids come in, the village may still repave Wilmont Street,
however, if that does not occur then just patching will be done this year.
Council also heard that so far, $14,715.61 has been received
from the Regional Income Tax Agency, which helps administer the village's new
income tax. "They (council) were pleased with the amount so far," said Buskirk.
"It definitely helped the general fund." Buskirk said the village is expecting
at least $30,000 in revenue to be generated from the income tax in its first
year, and she believes that is obtainable.
The village also discussed spring cleanup day for the
village, set for May 14 in the village parking lot. Metal Management will be
there to collect scrap metal, with money going to Kids for Christmas project.
Werlor's Waste Management also will be there to pick up other items. No tires,
batteries, cans with paint or oil will be accepted. The village made a motion
that the scrap iron it has will be donated for the Christmas for Kids program.
In other business, council:
- hired Justin Harris as a new firefighter and Gary Fairchild and Jeffrey
Andrist as EMTs.
