Village Council
March
Meeting
Many issues, including a new addition to
the Sherwood Crossing project, were discussed during the Sherwood Village
Council meeting on Monday night,
March 17th in downtown Sherwood.
Village Clerk-treasurer Dawn Buskirk
reported this morning that council members were told that developers of the
Sherwood Crossing project are waiting for money to be placed in an escrow
account before starting work on the new addition. Plans call for eight more
apartment Condo's to be built in the addition, located off Ohio 18. The Sherwood
Crossing project, when completed, will include several apartments and condo's,
stick-built homes and more.
Along with hearing about the additional
apartments, officials asked if the village can treat enough water to supply the
new addition. Acting Mayor Glen Vance said he talked with Rick Weaver of
Poggemeyer Design Group about the issue and was told there was enough water in
the village at this time for the addition. He also added that plans for the new
apartments had been sent to the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency, and if
there was a problem, the EPA would have stopped the project.
Council also discussed a survey of income
needs to be done to determine the median income of residents. Once the survey is
completed, it is believed the median income will be lower than what is currently
reported. Buskirk said if that happens then the village would be able to apply
for more grants for various projects.
Council discussed a possible ordinance
involving renters. The ordinance would state that when renters leave town
without paying utility bills, the landlord will be responsible to pay those
bills.
Fire Chief Steve Fitzwater also told
village council that the weather siren is out of service. On Wednesday, a crew
will work on the motor and hopefully fix the problem.
Council
also accepted applications for firefighters and EMS personnel. One individual
was approved for both the EMS and fire department. There were three EMS
applications and two firefighting.
In other business, council:
- heard that mayor's court is back in session.
- was advised that spring cleanup day will be
May 14.
- heard U.S. 127 will be closed on June 25
for the Sherwood Homecoming.
- approved widening and resurfacing the
west side of Wilmont Street this summer.
- talked about replacing storm sewers on
Harrison Street south of Ohio 18 this spring.
- heard the infrastructure committee will
meet with Central Local Schools officials at a later date to discuss a problem
with too much water being utilized by the school system.
- discussed how to get people to remove trash
from their property.
- talked about how some money can be obtained to
revitalize old homes.
