Sherwood Village asked to
take on more?
A wastewater-servicing proposal topped Sherwood Village Council’s meeting on
Wednesday with Tim Smith, of Swanton Properties LTD asking council if the
village would consider providing wastewater treatment services and possibly
supply water to the Brentwood Mobile Home community, Vagabond and a new truck
stop off U.S. 24.
Smith said that Brentwood, Vagabond and a new
truck stop that will be built soon were looking at several issues concerning
wastewater treatment, including creating their own sewer district, each business
handling its own wastewater or determining if a nearby municipality would be
interested in servicing them. There are grants through Rural Development and
other agencies that would be available to municipalities if providing the
service, Smith said.
Village solicitor Steve Hubbard asked why,
since the U.S. 24 route will be moved when widened to four lanes, someone would
want to put a new truck stop there. Smith said that based on where the exit will
be on the new highway route and the reputation of the Vagabond, it is believed a
new truck stop will be fruitful.
Mayor G. Clayton Miller asked what it would
take to service that area. He was told that council would probably need to have
a new cell at the lagoon. The three areas in question would produce 40,000-
45,000 gallons of wastewater daily, according to Ohio EPA regulations. Smith
pointed out that extending the wastewater service and possibly the water lines
to the current U.S. 24 would help with developing that side of town. With the
lines already in place and with U.S. 24 close by, companies may look at Sherwood
as a place to locate. Rick Weaver of Poggemeyer Design Group said he would find
out the cost and parameters of the project before they agreed to look into it.
Also on hand for the meeting were Delaware
Township trustees. They wanted to discuss Coy Road maintenance. Trustee Jim
Switzer said the township would like, in writing, the exact locations of where
the township and village are responsible for maintaining the road. The township
and village now equally divide maintenance north of Ohio 18. Miller said that
the township and village should split maintenance south of Ohio 18 to the Vine
Street extension.
“We’ll get it measured out to see what half is
and let you know,” said Mayor Miller. .
