Local Girl Injured
A local girl's playtime turned into a night mare Monday evening while riding her
bike south of Moats Park in Sherwood. The girl, 11, and a group of friends were
riding their bikes on the old railroad bed just west of Moats park when she
apparently got to close to the edge of the old railroad bridge in that area,
falling 20 feet to the rocks below. Sherwood Fire and Rescue were called who in
turn called in Pro-Medica Life Flight out of Defiance to assist, due to the
extent of her injuries.
Rescue workers removed the injured girl, having to carry her up the steep
embankment, which was quite the challenge itself. Sherwood PD, Defiance Co.
Sheriff's and a few local volunteers helped to clear an area just south of the
ball diamond for Pro Medica to land and helped to get the girl stabilized and
loaded in the helicopter.
Local sources tell us that the girl survived
the fall, she has regained some movement in her hands and feet but may lose a
spleen. Our prayers are with her.
