Sherwood Council August Meeting

Sherwood Village Council's meeting on Wednesday August 11th 2004 was a little less hectic this month with the main topics being Coy Road Ditch cleaning and a revitalization plan available to village residents.

A village resident asked if the Coy Road ditch and catch basins have been cleaned? Councilman Glen Vance responded that all the catch basins were cleaned and are operating properly.

Resident Judy Bayliss then requested that a catch basin in front of her house be cleaned and a water tap repaired in the alley near where she lives. Village administrator Joan Raker informed council that a village employee is cleaning storm sewers.

Also at the meeting, village officials heard from the revitalization committee. The committee advised local residents that the revitalization program, which includes a majority of the old part of town, is available.

The program offers a tax abatement on any home remodeling investment of $2,500 or more, and business remodeling of $5,000 or more. The zoning inspector has paperwork on the program if anyone is interested in applying, and Lisa Karcher of Maumee Valley Planning Organization will be in the village office at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday with more information.

Council was also questioned about paperwork for the new 1 percent village income tax that went into effect July 1. In paperwork mailed, there was no mention that the first $10,000 earned by senior citizens would not be taxed. Officials also were asked if this income tax is permanent or implemented for a specific number of years.

In response, village solicitor Steve Hubbard stated the Regional Income Tax Agency, which is contracted to collect and help administer the tax, is writing paperwork on the senior issue. Also, it was noted the income tax is permanent.

   In other business, council:

- passed an ordinance to approve no more permits for mobile homes until new zoning regulations are adopted.

- approved a resolution allowing the village to participate in the state's cooperative purchasing program.

- approved a resolution setting fees for copying at the village office. Copies are 10 cents a page if done by the individual or 25 cents if done by the clerk.

- hired Christen Sidle as a new EMS member.

- heard the fire department will spend $25,000 to replace helmets, boots and other equipment.
