The Annual Banquet
and meeting of Defiance County chapter of Ohio
Genealogical Society will take place at 6 p.m.
on Monday, October 25 at the St. John United
Church of Christ, 950 Webster Street near the
Defiance College Campus. The menu
for the banquet includes roast pork,
scalloped potatoes, vegetable,
cole slaw, dessert and beverages. Our
DCGS members are reminded that the deadline for
reservations for the banquet is
October 13. They may send $10 check and
the reservation form to DCGS, P O Box 7006,
Defiance, OH 43512-7006.
Our speaker for the
banquet will be Professor James Bissland, giving
a program on “How Ohians led the
Union Army to Victory.” James H Bissland,
associate professor emeritus at
Bowling Green State University, will tell
the history of how the men and women from
Ohio played a very pivotal role in
winning the Civil War. Bissland has written a
book, Blood, Tears, and Glory: How Ohioans
Won the Civil War, which chronicles how this
war shaped modern America, making it the most
important event in our U.S. history since the
Declaration of Independence. Professor
Bissland has spent his professional life as a
teacher and writer, specializing in gathering
and telling stories of remarkable people from
American history. His presentation is being
sponsored by a grant from the Ohio Humanities
Council.
