The Annual Banquet and meeting of Defiance County chapter of Ohio Genealogical Society will take place at 6 p.m. on Monday, October 25 at the St. John United Church of Christ, 950 Webster Street near the Defiance College Campus. The menu for the banquet includes roast pork, scalloped potatoes, vegetable, cole slaw, dessert and beverages.  Our DCGS members are reminded that the deadline for reservations for the banquet is October 13.  They may send $10 check and the reservation form to DCGS, P O Box 7006, Defiance, OH 43512-7006.

Our speaker for the banquet will be Professor James Bissland, giving a program on “How Ohians led the Union Army to Victory.”  James H Bissland, associate professor emeritus at Bowling Green State University, will tell the history of how the men and women from Ohio played a very pivotal role in winning the Civil War.  Bissland has written a book, Blood, Tears, and Glory: How Ohioans Won the Civil War, which chronicles how this war shaped modern America, making it the most important event in our U.S. history since the Declaration of Independence.  Professor Bissland has spent his professional life as a teacher and writer, specializing in gathering and telling stories of remarkable people from American history.  His presentation is being sponsored by a grant from the Ohio Humanities Council.
