Several Sherwood
organizations have combined efforts to sponsor Sherwood
holiday events. A village decorating contest, a tree
lighting ceremony, a 50/50 raffle and a visit with Santa at
the VFW are to be hosted during the upcoming season.

An annual
lighting/decorating contest is being sponsored by
the Sherwood Area Lions Club and the Sherwood Area Economic
Development Corporation. Area businesses are encouraged to
decorate their storefronts and compete for a prize. The
winner will receive $50, donated by the economic development
group. On December 12 a team of impartial judges will select
their favorite business and three residences within the
Sherwood corporate limits. There will be one first place
favorite residence with a prize of $50 and two second place
favorites with prizes of $25 each. The Lions Club will
provide prizes for the residential winners and Santa will
announce them at the VFW on Saturday, December 13, 2008 at 6
p.m..

The community will hold
its fifth annual tree lighting on the evening of Saturday,
December 6 at 7 p.m. at Sherwood Memorial Park.
Complimentary refreshments for this family event will be
served by the Lion's Club and the Park Board. Mayor Glen
Vance will be the guest of honor, throwing the switch to
light the tree. Carol Hull will act as mistress of
ceremonies. Pastor Kevin Doseck of Sherwood United Methodist
Church will deliver a message and prayer and singing of
carols will be led by the choir. The Village Food Emporium
will once again provide a turkey for a free drawing. The
winner of a 50/50 raffle benefiting Sherwood Parks will be
drawn at the event.
