Around Sherwood
We have had a few changes around
town since the last newsletter, I believe I spoke of DeVaults
moving out to the corner, well their move is complete and
DeVault's Variety Store is now located in Ron Kuhn's
building at the corner of 18 & 127. But now that DeVaults has
moved, it has left us with another empty building downtown. Be
sure and stop by DeVaults on Saturday, May 21st between 9am &
1pm, they will be celebrating their 1 year anniversary with
cake, punch and some Free gifts.
Del's Cafe took on a new set of hours starting the first of
May, now you will find Del's open Monday - Thursday 7am
- 8pm and Friday - Saturday 7am - 10pm, I guess anymore late
nights in Sherwood will have to be held at Lu-jo's.
Stop by Lu-Jo's Memorial
Day weekend, Sunday and Monday they will have karaoke from 8pm -
till whenever. Monday they will also host their annual
Rib-cook-off, have games and more fun for everyone.
The Sherwood Crossings project will
soon start another 8 condo's to be built east of the original 8
condo's that have already been sold.
The yearly Village Clean-up
day will be Saturday May 14th, now is the time to get rid of all
the junk that has piled up over winter and haul it to the
village parking lot. The Village will supply dumpsters and
recycling bins for all to use and help will be on hand to help
sort and unload the junk. Metal Management will be there to
collect scrap metal, with money going to Kids for Christmas
project. Werlor's Waste Management also will be there to pick up
other items. No tires, batteries, cans with paint or oil will be
accepted. The village has said they will donate the proceeds of
their scrap iron it has to the Christmas for Kids program.

wishing to register their sale should contact the library at

and a hand carved, table top carousel horse donated by Dana
Welch.
(See More) Tickets are available at the Sherwood Library and from
members of the Friends group. Proceeds from the sale go to
support the library.
The Sherwood Lions Club has planned a rummage sale
for all three days of the event at the former Wirth's SuperValu
store in downtown Sherwood. A wide variety of donated items will
be offered with proceeds from the sale going to community
programs including those involving eye care. Anyone wishing to
contribute items may call 419-899-2573.
Friday, May 20, marks opening day for the Sherwood
Farmers Market at the old school grounds. This will be the
second year for the market, with new hours of 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
on Fridays. Produce, baked goods, eggs, nursery stock and
starting this year, several products that are handcrafted
locally will be for sale. Those wishing to register as vendors

Saturday morning from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m., Sherwood
United Methodist Church is the place to be. The community

and gravy, along with several other breakfast favorites, all for
a free will offering. Good food, good company and a good start
to the weekend. So mark the dates, May 19, 20 and 21 and come
spend some time in Sherwood.
There will be a sign-up sheet at the library for those
wishing to register to be on the garages sale map and don't
forget to put it on line at the
Sherwood Classifieds. Stop in the library for a
raffle ticket and get more info on the annual Sherwood
Spring Fling.
The Friends of the Sherwood Library
are planning ahead for the month of June and Sherwood's
Homecoming on June 25th. In preparation for a month long exhibit
at the library entitled "Here Comes the Bride", a wedding album
of local residents is being created and a call has gone out for
wedding photos. The wedding need not to have taken place in
Sherwood, but the bride and groom should be (or have been)
connected with the community at some point in their life. A copy
of a wedding photo submitted to the library will be made for the
album and the original will be returned. The following
information should accompany the photo: name of bride, name of
groom, location of wedding, date of wedding and any other
interesting information. A newspaper clipping documenting the
wedding may also be useful and if submitted a copy will made.
The Sherwood Homecoming will be held downtown Sherwood
this year on Saturday June 25th, an all day affair is planned
according to Amy Murphy from the Sherwood Lions Club. Amy
has provided us with a look at what the Sherwood Homecoming will
consist of this year.

I believe it has been better
than 15 years since Sherwood has held their Homecoming
downtown, the homecoming has just not been the same since it
was moved to Moats Park. I remember as a boy riding my bike
all decked out in the downtown parade. Got my first silver
dollar from Mayor Wirth, as the town would give a silver
dollar to all the kids that would ride in the parade. You
can check out the
Sherwood Forums for more stories about what some
remember from past homecomings.

Central Local Schools
To build a new school or to remodel the old high
school, that is still the question before Central Local board members as
they try to figure out what is best for the schools. Uncle Sam has offered
the Schools 17million dollar to put into the schools, our share would be
about 6 million, but no one has decided yet how to go about it.
A contract for design of
the proposed Central Local junior high and senior high school project will
be negotiated with Beilharz Architects Inc. Beilharz scored the highest of
three contractors selected as finalists when the Central Local Board of
Education met back in April. Central Local continues its journey toward a
final decision on whether to accept the state's offer to fund 76 percent of
the cost of a junior high-high school building. A meeting was set for 4:30
p.m. May 5 at the Fairview Elementary building for the committee of Carol
Fabian, Roger Zeedyk and Jim Mustard of ReSources in Celina, a fund
acquisition corporation helping with the project. The committee will review
the project to date and recommend to the board what action should be
pursued: to remodel, to refurbish, to build new or to do nothing. I have yet
to hear if they have made a decision, so keep watch at our home page for any
updates.
Fairview students last day of school will be May
26th and don't forget, Graduation ceremonies for the Class of 2005 will be
on Sunday May 29, 2:00pm at the Fairview High School. Fairview will have 81
Seniors graduating in the class of 2005 and we wish them all the luck in the
world, for they are the ones that will be taken care of me someday.
