Sherwood Holiday Happenings

A lighting/decorating contest is being sponsored by the Sherwood Memorial Park Revitalization Committee, the Sherwood Area Lions Club and the Sherwood Area Economic Development Corp. Area businesses are encouraged to decorate their store fronts and compete for a prize. The winner will receive an advertisement in the Crescent News donated by the economic development group. On the evening of December 17, 2004, a team of impartial judges will select their favorite business and residence within the Sherwood corporate limits. The favorite residence will win a cash prize of $100 provided by the Lions Club. Santa will announce the winners at the VFW event on Saturday, December 18, 2004.

December 4th Sherwood Village will hold it's first annual Christmas Tree lighting ceremony Saturday Dec. 4th at 7 pm. This will  be held at the old Sherwood School grounds. Remember the pine trees that used to be in front of the school, one of them has survived the removal of the school and will be used as the Village Christmas Tree. The tree was prepared Nov. 23rd and will officially be lit Dec. 4th. Stop by on the 4th and enjoy the refreshments and a prize drawing at 7 pm.

Apache News

Congratulations to the Fairview Apache Football team for another great season. They tied for 1st place with Hicksville Aces for the GMC title and finished out their season with 8 wins and 2 loses. The Apaches lost the first post season play-off game to the Liberty Center Tigers in Division  play-offs, Way to go Apaches. Another Apache moment and Congratulations goes to Andrew Hange, a senior this year at Fairview. Andrew competed in the State Cross-Country run at another attempt to win the State championship title. Hange's last two attempts to win the title for Fairview were no better than 5th. This year he placed a career best 3rd, congratulations Andrew at another valiant effort at the State Title. Andrew was also named First Team All-Ohio, keep the memories for they will stay a lifetime. Sherwood Networks

Did you know you can now access the internet at Del's Cafe, that is with your own laptop and wireless card. Smta and Bright.net have been working together to bring Sherwood to the new age of fast internet with their DSL and wireless services.

Sherwood phone billing scam

Be sure and check out your phone bills for unwanted phone charges. This came to my light when I got a charge for $19.95 from OAN services for some USA Voicemail. Needless to say, I did not order these services. Spoke with Tina at the Phone Company (SMTA) and she told me to call the 800 number listed on my phone bill. Well that led to an operator that told me I must of signed-up per one of there 110 pop-ups on the internet, which she could tell me no more about.

The word Lawyer got this month and next month's, which was already in process, charges dropped. Tina says that they have had other complaints on a company that bills under the name of Integretel. $12.95 a month for, again, voice mail services. Hey guess what, Sherwood only charges $4.95 a month for these services, and you can't sign-up vie a pop-up.

I did a little digging myself, online of course, and found the following websites that had lots to say about these two services,  http://www.ripoffreport.com/reports/ripoff66261.htm and http://www.ripoffreport.com/reports/ripoff42818.htm , after reading them, please keep check on your phone charges.

Sherwood Chicken

Now you are wondering what a Sherwood Chicken is, well I'll tell you in a minute after I tell you the story. I was surfing the discussion forum the other day, looking for any new additions and ran across the following post in "Are you a Sherwood-ite". The title read "Help a fellow Sherwood-ite!", so I go on to read the following

" My daughter is a finalist for an online costume contest. If you have the time before December 3rd click on this web address:
http://www.coolest-kid-birthday-parties.com/costume-vote ,And vote for the chicken!! Thanks for your help! icon_wink.gif P.S. This is my first time on this site and I am impressed!!

Needless to say she hit some good buttons and I proceeded to the webpage listed, sure enough, that's where I found the Sherwood Chicken. This chicken is the daughter of Melissa Karzynow of Sherwood. So be sure and stop by the website listed and give the Chicken a vote. Why? Because it's a Sherwood Chicken.

The Bend Bridge Dedication

Ceremonies for the Delaware Bend bridge dedication were held at  The Delaware fire hall October 15 around 5:30pm. The public was invited to join in this celebration of the completion of the project on the north side of the bridge, but due to unfavorable weather, was moved to the fire hall. The first 250 people who registered for the celebration received a commemorative medallion as a token of the occasion that includes an impression of the new structure.    Live music performances and speakers representing the contractor, Ohio Department of Natural Resources and county officials accompanied the ribbon cutting while the Delaware Township trustees and Delaware Township Fire & Rescue Department provided refreshments.

I have spoke with many residents from around that area and they are so glad to have their bridge back. Looks like the traffic has picked up a considerable amount also. Well I don't like to be the bearer of bad news, but, a couple of weeks ago I read in the Defiance County Commissioners report, they were bidding out the job of widening the Bend Road from St. Rt. 18 north to St. Rt. 15. I sure hope it doesn't take a 1 1/2 years to get this project done. I will keep you informed on this project when I hear more.

If you didn't get a chance to stop out for the festivities at the dedication, Check out Sherwood News link. Or read the story and view some pictures, click here.

Sherwood Stuff

Sherwood village council approved The Lions Club request to move the Sherwood Homecoming back down town this year. The Homecoming will be held on Saturday June 25th 2005. The Lions Club had requested this due to declining attendance at the homecoming in previous years and hope to bring more people to the homecoming with it being back down town.

What do you think of the homecoming being held down town again? Tell us your thoughts at the Sherwood discussion forums.

Village Council is considering building a new water treatment plant for Sherwood, you can read more on councils November meeting and the treatment plant at the Sherwood News.

Old man winter gave us a taste of what is to come Nov. 24th. High winds and rain hit the Sherwood area Wednesday afternoon rearranging a few Christmas decorations, downing a couple of trees on the north end of town and removing part of Lu-Jo's (Sherwood House) roof. The wind got up under the metal roof, tearing away a 20 x 40 area from above the bar. The section of roof was carried by the wind over the south side of the building and landed in the middle of Lawrence St, between the bar and the RR tracks. The roof section also took out a power line and caused traffic to back up at the RR crossing. After about 2 hours the power was restored and CSX employees were able to get the crossing arms working again. Before the storm was done, it did manage to put 2 inches of snow on the ground for Thanksgiving day. What a way to start the Holiday season.
