Class Profile    Classmate Directory

The class of 1977 graduated as the largest class ever to leave Fairview High School. During high school we had a wide array of interests and personality types. We came from the "city" and from the country. Some left high school and went directly to college, while others joined the armed forces, while still a larger group went directly into the workforce and did not continue with formal education. But, after 30 years, where are we now?

Of the invitations mailed, roughly 1/3 of our 155 classmates live out of state. Illinois seems to be the place to be. Of those that stayed in Ohio, many live out of the immediate area, several being in Bryan and Defiance.

As a group, we are mostly married (5 to 1), and one half of those have been married for over 20 years to the same person. Of the respondents (approx 40), there are over 100 children with over 40 grandchildren (nearly 2 girls for every one boy).

Very few of our classmates smoke (that responded) and nearly all have had under 5 jobs in the past 30 years. Only one admitted to serving their country. Nearly all of us own our own homes and have a car in the driveway. Second would be a truck and lastly an SUV/minivan. We are mostly Catholic and Lutheran and 3 of us work for someone else for every 1 engaged in self employment. Only a couple of our classmates are retired (but that will change by the next reunion).

If you visit one of our homes, you will most likely hear either classic rock or country music, and chances are equally split that you will be in the home of a NASCAR fan, although which driver they will root for is not at all clear. If you visit during prime time, it is hard to say what show you will see on the TV, as every respondant had different answers (only one was repeated and that was Survivor). Most shows listed were either on HGTV, TVLAND, or comedies.

What was most interesting was hindsight. Many times I have heard "if hindsight were foresight...." What would we have done differently had we known then what we know now? Here are some of the wise words of wisdom...

- The small stuff really doesn't matter

- That a lot of things just don't matter

- Time really flies

- I would have gone to college and paid more attention to my education

- Boys will never really be anything other than boys!

- I would have not been so shy, talked to more people and had more self-confidence

- That I did not have to ever work for someone else

- That bad memories stay with you, but not making them is the only answer to not having them.

- If I woulda known that the government was gonna put us in the predicament they have, I would not have raised a family.

- I should have paid more attention in typing. Who'da known?

- That I should have gone to Four County for an education and that lif is short and you shouldn't take anything for granted.

- I wish I would have paid more attention to my mom, her recipes, how to can, etc, BEFORE she died

- A vasectomy is cheaper than raising kids!

- That 48 is not all that old! That life is can be terrific, happy and fulfilling. And had I known that I would have lived this long, I would have taken better care of myself.

- I wish I would have known GOD and the importance of an education and following your dreams

- Don't get married when you are young!

- To enjoy life one day at a time.

- To watch the market and invest in something called Microsoft and Starbucks

- To venture causes anxiety, but to not venture is to lose onesself. And to venture in the highest sense is precisely to be conscious of onesself. - Kierkeguard

- To save every penny. And that a lot of men are self-centered and controlling.

- That there is so much life in family and that family is what makes life most important.

- Being elected class president puts you in charge of class reunions for life

- I would have kept my older cars.

- I would have pursued my sports interests more.

- How fast time flies and how everything is so political...

- That I went to school with an interesting bunch and that I have deep memories which no one can ever take away, or steal, or burn, or misplace, or kill. And when pressure of life gets me down, I can slip back into those memories of fun, peace, innocence and family and suddenly life seems OK.
